The play shoots it’s wad early and then teeters on through images and chaos. Beyond ridiculing the most banal situations, Ionesco’s plays depict in a tangible way the solitude and insignificance of human existence. Brulotte gives Jacques both a goofiness that relates him to his family and the suppressed anger of an individual who knows he is being crushed.
